The CCSA is unhappy with the decision as no seat has been reserved for the Hindu minority either in the Parliament or in the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan (IEC).  "Reservation of one seat for the Hindu minority in the Parliament is mentioned in the Constitution of Afghanistan, but this article has been deleted from the Law by the Parliament. President Karzai also ignored the nomination of one Hindu candidate for the IEC membership," said Mr. Singh.  "Hindus of Afghanistan are not Indian or Pakistani refugees, they are citizens of Afghanistan, and they have played a constructive role in the preservation of democracy. Why their demands have not been considered?" questions Ahmad Shah Estanakzai, Chairman of the Afghanistan Peace Village.  Meanwhile, a number of civil society institutions have supported the demands of the CCSA and stressed on ensuring the protection of basic rights of Hindu minority in the country.  "According to the laws, Hindus are allowed to fight for their rights, but the government has violated the Constitution of Afghanistan and has failed to honor the demands of the Hindu minority group," said Ajmal Balochzada, a civil society activist.  "Rights of the Hindu and Sikh minorities have always been ignored by the government, none of their demands are ever accepted by the government, we, the civil society institutions firmly support their demands," said Zahra Sepehr, civil society activist.  The CCSA has said that in the past, thousands of Sikhs and Hindu families were living in the country and their humanitarian and legal rights were saved. The majority of Afghan parents give more freedom to their sons than to their daughters. They are pressured to not wear make-up and to wear only dark colors. Always look down. Don’t laugh. Don’t make eye contact with men. Meena’s talent was recognized there by the revered Afghan artist Ustad (Art Master) Qais Nawabi. Under his tutelage she quickly became his premier art student.  At the age of sixteen Meena’s first oil painting, “Dream,” was sold at a record price to an art collector in Germany.  The international art community began to take notice.As her work evolved, Ustad Nawabi began referring to her respectfully as “Ustad Meena.”  (Art Master Meena).  She held her first official art show in Peshawar in late 2007.  At this show another of her paintings, “Baba Panjshiri” (Panjshir Grandfather) commanded great attention and was sold to an international art investor.  Shortly afterward Meena was offered her first media interview, with Voice of America.</span></b><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; As the plains become scrunched up into a  knot of mountains, and the Hindu Kush collides with the Pamir range, the  distance from Kabul seems to be measured in centuries as much as miles.<br />Badakhshan’s  history as well as its geography reveals this independent streak. A far  outpost of the Achaemenid empire, by the medieval period it was  recognised as a sovereign state, its wealth deriving from the trade  routes through the mountains between China, Kashmir and Bukhara. Timur  tried and failed to subdue it, while his successors sent embassies  instead. In the 19th century Badakhshan was finally subsumed into the  Afghan state but even Abdur Rahman Khan baulked at having to rule it  properly. The Wakhan Corridor, that panhandle of land sticking into  China, was only forced on him when the British and Russians decided they  needed a buffer between their empires. The provincial capital of Faizabad provides a gateway to some of the country’s most sublime landscapes, from the Kuchi pastures of Lake Shewa to the Pamirs themselves, home of the last nomadic Kyrgyz on earth, in mountains so high that Marco Polo claimed that even birds couldn’t fly there. Of equal inspiration to the truly intrepid are the mines of Sar-e Sang, source of most of the world’s lapis lazuli. Badakhshan also serves as an entry point into Tajikistan and, potentially, northern Pakistan.<br /><br />Visitors should be aware that Badakhshan is second only to Helmand for opium production. Controlled by Northern Alliance, opium is the backbone of the local economy. Ironically, security is generally fairly good in the province, but you should be extremely circumspect with cameras and questions if travelling in an area with poppy cultivation. One of its most vibrant periods was also one of its earliest. During the ancient period, this region served as an important point along the Silk Road which created a place where cultures mixed and influences were highly varied. These influences included China, ancient Rome, and India. The area was mostly home to the Buddhist religion though. The religion was born in the approximate area and flourished in the Gandharan region, which includes the Bamiyan valley. This area hit a peak with Emperor Chandragupta Maurya and even furthered its power and wealth during the rule of Ashoka, who was not only a great ruler but also a practitioner of Buddhism.         Buddhist monasteries were not the most usual of structures in this era, around the 5th Century CE. Monks would usually live in carved out caves or grottoes that were connected to or near chaityas, which were sanctuaries also carved out of the living rock. The Bamiyan valley is full of these caves and inside them many pieces and works of art can be found. Most frequently statues were created or paintings done on the wall, almost all devotional in nature. It sits high in the Hindu Kush at an altitude of 2900m, and in 2013 about 6,000 local tourists visit the site each year. The lakes are situated in the foothills of the Hindu Kush, the second highest mountain range in the world, 80 kilometers from the ancient town of Bamiyan, where the Taliban destroyed the world’s tallest Buddha statues in 2001. Surrounded by pink towering limestone cliffs almost in complete lack of vegetation, the stunning lakes seems totally out of place.</div><div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 22px; orphans: auto; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px;">The beautiful lakes were created by the carbon dioxide rich water that is drawn from the spring melt-water in the surrounding mountains and came out from faults and cracks in the rocky landscape. This outflow of water percolates slowly through the underlying limestone, dissolving its principal mineral, calcium carbonate. Over time, the water deposited layers of hardened mineral (travertine), which created dams that trap water in increasingly large basins. These dams are usually about 10m high and 3m wide. The largest is Band-e Zulfiqar, which measures some 6.5km (4mi) in length.
